Commission (FTC)
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
is responsible for consumer product warranties, offers through the
mail, credit bureaus and door to door sellers. The FTCs
primary mission is to protect consumers. Examples of their
mandate include: combating telemarketing fraud, Internet scams or
price-fixing schemes.
The
FTC works to smooth the operation of our free
market system and to ensure that the nations markets are vigorous,
efficient and free of restrictions that harm consumers.
The FTC enforces federal consumer protection laws that prevent
fraud, deception and unfair business practices. The Commission also
enforces federal antitrust laws that prohibit anticompetitive
mergers and other business practices that restrict competition and
harm consumers.
In addition, the Commission conducts economic research and analysis
to support its law enforcement efforts and to contribute to the
policy deliberations oft the Congress, the Executive Branch, other
independent agencies, and state and local governments.
